Highway 413 Impact Assessment Scrapped
Government Agreement Reached
May 3, 2021
The Ontario and federal governments have announced that they have reached an agreement to drop the impact assessment of Highway 413.
The Highway 413 project was previously designated under the Impact Assessment Act in May 2021. However, the current Impact Assessment Act has been criticized for being too slow and cumbersome.
The new agreement will see the federal government withdraw its designation of the project under the Impact Assessment Act. This will allow the Ontario government to proceed with the project without further federal environmental review.
The agreement is subject to approval by the Federal Court.
A public information centre will be held on December 2021 to discuss the federal impact assessment process.
